Robert de Niro will be in Madrid on the 1 March to enjoy Madrid Fusión’s “Priceless Menu”

Mauro Colagreco, Joan Roca, Quique Dacosta, José Andrés and Martín Berasategui will create a unique tasting menu for him, to be served in the Royal Suite at the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid.

The actor and businessman, Robert De Niro, will be in Madrid next Tuesday, 1 March, in keeping with his word, and will enjoy a “Priceless Menu”. He was made the offer by Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España ahead of the last edition, and if he accepted to take part in the promotion of this gastronomic congress, he would enjoy this spectacular meal. Five of the most renowned chefs on the planet will cook for him at this exclusive encounter: Mauro Colagreco, Joan Roca, Quique Dacosta, José Andrés and Martín Berasategui.

This meal, which will be unique and inimitable, will take place at the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid, in a singular space: the Royal Suite of this historical hotel in Madrid. Inaugurated in 1910, it has now reopened its doors after its most extensive renovation in 110 years. Only two diners will be present at the meal. De Niro will be accompanied at this special gastronomic encounter by his partner, Tiffany Chen, a martial arts instructor who lives in New York and had a small role in The Intern (2015).

Last May, De Niro accepted  the challenge and so will enjoy this inimitable tasting menu prepared by five of the world’s best cooks. Since then, he has been looking for a date in his busy schedule in order to come to Spain. He was the protagonist of a video made for Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España that is seeking to promote this gastronomic summit internationally. The campaign, produced by Attic Films, showed Madrid Fusion’s supposed lawyer, played by an actor, showing up at the Hollywood star’s office to make him “an offer he can’t refuse”. The deal was for him to participate at the congress in exchange for this meal. Aware that De Niro is a great lover of gastronomy – he owns restaurants and luxury hotels in the New York neighbourhood of Tribeca as well as in other cities around the world – they offered him a dinner “of incalculable value” prepared by the ten hands of five of the most extraordinary chefs. The spot, under the hashtag #robertsayyes, spread like wildfire on social media until it made its way to the actor’s close circle. “Of course, I'm in,” said the winner of two Oscars when he heard about the campaign.

The gastronomic proposition for this meal was decided on by the five chefs over the past few days, coordinated by Quique Dacosta, who is head of the culinary offerings at the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid. On offer will be iconic dishes from the restaurants of these five chefs, who will use seasonal produce that is representative of their cuisines. The menu will consist of 16 courses. Six appetisers, eight main courses and two desserts. The meal will include ingredients such as Iberian ham, Dénia and Palamós shrimp, bluefin tuna, asparagus, hake, eel, rice, black truffles, Albufera duck and caviar. De Niro will enjoy, among other dishes: a white asparagus and truffle terrine, caramelised millefeuille of smoked eel, foie gras, spring onion and green apple; cubed hake with kokotxas, coffee emulsion and paprika flakes.
